Apprentices must achieve level 2 functional skills in maths and English (unless equivalent GCSE’s are already held) English L2 – GCSE C/4 Maths L2 – GCSE C/4, applicant will also need ICT 1.

These qualifications will need to be achieved before the apprenticeship is completed, you don’t have to have them on entry to the course.

Full Training cost – £5,000

Cost to employer: 16- 18year olds £0, 19+ up to 5% of the full cost £250 over 2 years but this is assessed on an individual basis.

Full Training cost – £9,000 

 

Cost to employer: 16- 18year olds £0, 19+ up to 5% of the full cost £450 over 4 years but this is assessed on an individual basis.

Module information

level 2

The NVQ Level 2 plumbing and heating qualification is designed for anyone who wants to become a plumber or domestic heating engineer. It provides all the basic domestic heating and plumbing training you need to start work in the industry.

Level 3

The NVQ Level 3 plumbing and heating qualification is aimed at anyone who has already completed the Level 2 qualification, or who already has some relevant experience and knowledge. If you choose gas-related units at Level 3 you will achieve the Gas Safe licence to practise on successful completion of the course.

Year 1 (level 2)
  • Health and safety including health and safety test which meets the requirements to obtain a CSCS card through the JIB-PMES.
  • Common plumbing processes and techniques including use of hand and power tools, types of pipework and their jointing principles, use of clips and brackets to support plumbing and heating pipework and components.
Year 2 (level 2)
  • Installation decommission and maintenance of domestic plumbing and heating pipework.
Year 3 (level 3)
  • Understand and carry out electrical work on domestic plumbing and heating systems and components.
  • Design and select systems. Install, commission and diagnose and rectify faults.
Year 4 (level 3)
  • Choice of pathways from Gas, Oil, Solid Fuel and Environmental technologies

Delivery and Assessment

Delivered via day release over an academic calendar year, some regions may offer block release, you would need to check with your JTL Training Officer.
