JTL apprentices in Hull recently benefitted from a specialist training session in renewable heating technologies, fine tuning their skills related to domestic boilers and heat pumps. We recently welcomed Mark Griffin, Technical Training Manager with Ideal Heating, to lead an interactive training session dedicated to heating machinery and the latest industry technologies.
The day was a great success, not only because of the valuable technical knowledge shared by Mark, but also due to the enthusiasm shown by our apprentices.
Learners explored the inner workings of domestic boilers, how they operate, their key components, and the necessary steps for effective servicing. They took part in a competition to service and find fault on industry leading appliances. dismantling the boiler, they gained a deeper understanding of how each part functions and what happens when something goes wrong. They also learned about best practices for reassembling and maintaining the system to ensure efficiency and longevity.
In the afternoon, training shifted focus to heat pumps – a technology that is gaining increasing importance as we move towards more sustainable, renewable heating systems. Mark provided an overview of how heat pumps work, including the various types, the installation process, and the benefits of using them.
The hands-on experience with both boilers and heat pumps that our learners received gives them a solid foundation to build on as they progress in their training and careers
Mark said:
“The apprentices’ behaviour was exemplary! I was asked some tough questions throughout the day and the enthusiasm from them was great to see. I wish them well for the rest of their apprenticeships and hope to see them for further training at one of our centres in the future if they choose to further their qualifications once their apprenticeships are completed.”
